In Austria there is no official architecture policy. For the contact with the politicians and the civil servants Austria works with the Plattform für Architekturpolitik und Baukultur, where all relevant institutions in Austria engaged in architecture and architectural culture are joint together. The Platform exists since 2003 and since the beginning of 2010.

Baukulturreport
The Plattform für Architekturpolitik und Baukultur is responsible for the ‘Baukulturreport’ (Austrian Report on building culture), which has been published for the first edition in 2006, commissioned by the Austrian Government. This report for the first time gave a wide overview about the situation of architecture and building culture in Austria. It was presented and discussed in the Austrian Parliament.

A second edition is near completion and will be presented by the end of 2011. It focuses on three topics, which Austria considers the most relevant at the moment:

  • Building and commissioning processes
  • Sustainability, with all relevant aspects
  • Buildings for education and built environment education for young people.

In addition the second report has a summary what happened in the last years, how the recommendations from the first report has been realised and it formulates also recommendations for the next years.
